Industry outlook: Transformation trends and modernisation paths in energy-intensive and highly competitive industries in the IGBCE’s organisational area – study series
In the project, ten industry outlooks are being prepared that focus on current transformation trends and adaptation requirements in energy-intensive and highly competitive industries in the IGBCE’s organisational sphere. The transformation trends include the development towards sustainability, greenhouse gas neutrality and the circular economy, digitalisation, (de)globalisation and demographic change. The project will map out how the respective sectors are preparing for these developments, the degree to which they are affected, technological options as well as the effects on innovation, location security and employment. The sectors considered include:
- Pulp and paper production
- Chemical industry (basic and specialty chemicals)
- Pharmaceutical industry
- Glass industry
- Petroleum industry / Refineries
- Plastics processing industry
- Energy sector (conventional and renewable)
- Rubber industry
- Mining / Raw materials extraction
- Ceramics
Some industry outlooks are being produced internally as well as in collaboration with the IGBCE’s industry groups, others are being produced in conjunction with the VDI Technology Centre.
The first project results are expected in autumn 2020.
