The actors involved in co-determination face the challenge of constructively supporting the processes for introducing artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in companies. In order to be able to represent interests vis-à-vis the employer, a basic understanding of how AI works, the risks and consequences is necessary. AI applications are used in companies for rationalization. They use the data generated by digitized processes on a large scale when implemented in operational procedures, which raises questions regarding data protection and the task of preventing abusive evaluations. In social terms, the introduction of AI is not just about economic productivity for the direct increase in profits, but also about job security and sustainability as well as the upgrading of work and occupational safety for good regional location development in the interests of all stakeholders.
