Due Diligence Laws as the Opportunity? The Changing World.
The 2022 supply chain conference “The World in Transition – Supply Chain Laws as an Opportunity?” organized by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung and the Foundation for Labour and Environment of the IGBCE on October 18, 2022 placed the German supply chain due diligence law and the planned European directive in the new geopolitical field of tension and illuminated the opportunities arising from their introduction for sustainable and resilient supply chains. One of the topics discussed at the conference was the need for improvements to the EU Commission’s current draft for a directive. It is clear that in the future, companies will have to take more responsibility for safeguarding human rights and environmental protection along the entire value chain. Co-determination rights of trade unions worldwide must play a central role in this.
